Além da pandemia Covid-19 que matou quase 300.000 pessoas no país, a Índia também enfrenta surtos de fungos potencialmente mortais e problemas com a produção de vacinas.

Mithal explicou que esta infecção pode afetar pacientes com sistema imunológico enfraquecido e doenças pré-existentes, especialmente aqueles com diabetes e uso inadequado de esteróides. Os níveis de açúcar no sangue não controlados aumentam o risco da doença em pessoas com problemas imunológicos.

Crise na produção de vacinas

Existem dois principais produtores de vacinas contra Covid-19: o Serum Institute em Pune, que produz vacinas Oxford / AstraZeneca (incluindo as exportadas para o Brasil) e a Bharat Biotech, em Hyderabad, que está produzindo sua própria vacina, a Covaxin, que autorizou os testes no Brasil na Anvisa há dez dias.
